DP’s Summer Showcase Summary

By: Austin Alexander – June 8-9, 2009

Weather cooperates, scouts attend, stars shine bright at DP Showcase

The sun was out in full force on Monday and Tuesday at Diamond Prospects’ 4th Summer Showcase as 150 players in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 classes were at Brookland-Cayce High School to work out for more than 40 college coaches and professional scouts.

Evaluators from all over the Carolina’s strolled into the Capitol City looking to deepen their recruiting boards and was treated to a laundry list of young talent, including some of the rising stars in the Class of 2012.

The 60’s kicked off our day then gave way to the defensive workout, batting practice and bullpens followed. The top running time was turned in by Laurens Academy’s Brandon Martin, Pickens’ Logan Thomas flashed the biggest MPH bolts, JL Mann’s Bo Thompson lashed ball after ball into the gaps and Brookland-Cayce’s Chase Shelton stole the show with a steady flow of prodigious dingers on his home field.

Monday went like clockwork as we flawlessly transitioned from one phase of the workout to the next, thanks to a tremendous job by the DP Staff, the fungo wizard Ken Bagwell and his FungoMan, a truly amazing machine that produces groundballs with exact precision!

All in all it was another very successful event that produced a nice showing of talent and coverage by decision-makers. DP would personally like to thank Brookland-Cayce High, Brian Hucks, Chris Bates, Bo Bowers and Bryan Schroder to go along with the many who pitched in to pull off another quality showcase.

In the coming week, we will roll out all the info from Columbia beginning with 60 times, POP times and MPH’s all the way to top prospect rankings in every aspect of the game! We will also hand out our highly-coveted player and coach awards in a variety of categories.
